out of stock or discontinued, I don’t know why they use that whole 86’d thing but thats the term they use, they use it all the time in my resturant! say were out of like chocolate milk, there will be a note on out memo board like this:

Choco MILK

86’d till 8/19/07

It can also be used for a person say one of our cooks got fired it will say:

Joe NOONE!

86’d FOREVER no longer allowed on premisis

86’d means that you are kicked out of somewhere. For Example, when you steal from the local convenience store they will 86 you. You can never shop there again.

86 is old diner slang for getting someone out of the diner or not to serve them (how 86 was selected for this term is up for conjecture, although other fragments include 95 [a customer leaving without paying] and 400W [maple syrup])

86 is the number used in old military language meaning to get rid of, discard, throw away, and/or toss out in great force if need be. The military no longer uses that term. Like any fad, it faded away. They say it outright.

To be removed, violently if need be, cast aside, thrown out or away.

“Gave up”, “jettisoned”. I think it’s “restaurant talk”, like how “moo juice” means “milk”.
