Since technically (although everyone still does it, especially when speaking), you are not supposed to end a sentence with a preposition (‘up’), you should use a different word order if you want to use ‘growing’.

Growing up, I was not rich.

While growing up I was not rich.

Your sentence is correct too.

“I was not rich growing up” is not correct, because ‘up’ is an incorrect word in which to end a sentence.

The correct sentence is, “Growing up, I was not rich.”

“I did not grow up rich” is fine.

Growing up, I was not rich.

But the better sentence to use is: I did not grow up rich.

You got it right the first time. You could also say, “While I was growing up, I was not rich.”

“Growing up, I was not rich.” Does that work?

Your sentence is O.K., but it would be a little more elegant if you said: “Growing up, I was not rich.” or “I was not rich when I was growing up.
