Depends on where you are applying. If its a big school then your ACT/SAT scores may be good enough. But in a smaller more elite school competition is tougher. I wouldn’t say joining in the 12th grade will hurt you too much.

In all honesty it really would not make a difference because when you list it on a resume or on an app you mention that you were in the national honor sociey for x number of years. They really would not care if you passed up the opportunity to join in the 11th grade and joined instead in your senior year.
