For me it depends on what kind of person you are. Some work in groups and exchange notes with others. Some listen to music while studying. Some take down everything the teacher says in class with a laptop. What worked for me was studying with a couple of classmates.

take regular breaks after 20 minutes , get up and stretch get a drink or whatever, then get back to it…repetition works for me and writing out the answers to questions I formulate….
