Which College do i have a better shot at UC Davis or UC Santa Cruz?

i have a weighted gpa of 3.31 and have a average SAT score of 1590 ( don’t worry i’m taking the ACT too get a higher score) and i’m in Student Government, i play Volleyball, I work, I do yearbook and i’m thinking about going into Key Club, Black Student Union and Condom Club. Do i have a realistic shot into getting into either? Also this might hold me back a little, i had a first semester grade of a D in Advanced Biology and the time to take it in Summer school has passed for 10th and 11th grades, but i got an A in the second semester, will the UC’s overlook that or will it disadvantage me?

You won’t know until you try. You can boost your GPA by cramming couple of community college courses (in the a-g subject area that are UC-transferable) into this summer (summer after junior year is your last chance). You will have to repeat the first semester of biology if you want to use that to satisfy the laboratory science requirement for UCs (to satisfy the requirement, you must pass the course with a C or better).

Start planning your personal statement, see a guideline from the UC here: https://uccp.collegepath.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=content.publicItem&NavID=238&ID=4 The personal statement gives the university an opportunity to see you as a person and you want to seize that opportunity to tell the university about who you were, how you come to be the person you are now and what your plans are for the future.

Davis is super competitive. You may have a better chance with Santa Cruz (though, it is competitive as well). Try both, though, what harm could come from it?
