What classes should I take in high school to get into high school. I am a sophomore. And what college classes do I need to take to get in law school. I am trying for Drake University or Iowa University, they are both in Iowa. Thanks in advance

There are two schools of thought on how to best prepare for law school.

#1 Take classes that will ensure you have the highest GPA. Law schools typically look at two things. Your LSAT score, and your GPA. If you take a “hard major” that gives you a low GPA, you might find yourself at a disadvantage for admissions. So, keep your grades high!

#2 Take classes that will teach you critical thinking, and strong writing.

Once you’re in law school, your grades will be based on how well you can analyze rules, facts, and issues. Your grades will be directly based on how well you can write a law school exam. So, having a great undergraduate GPA won’t do you much good if you can’t write well…. because you won’t do well enough in law school to get a job.

So, if you put the two together, you should be taking classes that you can do well in, and you should be taking classes that focus on reading, writing, and critical thinking.

Speech, English, History, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Literature, Political Science, Debate, Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Paralegal Classes (in college) and Communications. Those are all great classes that will teach you the necessary skills to succeed in law school.

The other thing that you can do to REALLY help you get into law school is to start practicing logic and analytical puzzles.

The LSAT is a monster of a test, harder than anything you’ve ever taken. Pick up a “How to do well on the LSAT” book now and start practicing. Don’t worry that you do poorly right now, the goal is to familiarize yourself with what sort of thing they test for. Most people will start practicing for the LSAT the year before they take the test. If you’re a little familiar with what the test will be like in advanced, that will put you ahead of the game.

Good luck.

Hey Turk — me again– I really under stand the coursity about being an attorney…But under certain circumstances the best research is research done by you… Attorneys in the office or in the field do a tremendous amount of reading and law research… When you go into an attorney office they have a law library — might be 150 books. … Because they do not want to show up in court and be wrong — with egg on their face–OK You really should contact the university and ask for a catalog —OK … Also, a guide for law school… Your going in the right way –ok

I’d recommend taking courses in “unemployment benefits” and “debt collection.” If you go to law school, you’re gonna need to know these subjects. Forget law school, the legal field is a dead field. There are many many unemployed attorneys all competing for very few jobs. Law grads are limping out of school with alot of debt, and terrible job prospects. Take my advice, get out of undergrad and work for awhile. Real-world experience is the best asset one can obtain nowadays. Forget law school, you’ll just end up with alot of debt and little to show for it.

in high school, take political science and get into speech classes or debate. College, no courses or major is necessary to go into law. But I suggest taking speech and communication courses. That’s really important. Get on the debate team, take political science, and history .

I really don’t think it matters because in order to get accepted into law school you first need a B.S or B.A. If your school offers pre- law class or criminal justice classes take them.

Depends on your local area. In California ANY BA degree qualifies you for law school.
