College Assistance, please?

I’m a senior in hs right now. I want some opinions about how my resume is looking and some colleges I should be looking at. I live in Texas and I’m mostly looking at instate colleges, but I think I’d consider state colleges if it’s worth it.

I rank 22% in my class with a 3.41 GPA on a 4.0. A big class (594) & competitive school

I have a 1960 on my SAT with a 1330 in math & critical reading. Plan on retaking

Four yrs of orchestra, violin. Made region orchestra & have earned one’s all my years at solo competition. An officer this yr-librarian

National Honor Society

Peer Assitance and Leadership (PALS)

I’ve volunteered. Part of YES program & Interact–volunteering clubs

Selected into Mayor’s Youth Association Council

Plan on taking act & sat2

Couldnt fit everything I’ve done, just highlights. I’m trying to add onto my resume with the little time left. I hope to get into UT Austin, as a possible chem major. Any opinions/suggestions? Any input would be great! Thanks a lot! =D

I’d say you having everything you need to make it to UT Austin. What college look for on a resume or application is the academic background i.e. grade point avg, class ranking, results on the ACT and SAT, and etc. Another is the extracurricular activities that you may have done i.e., Yearbook, Student Council, Clubs, etc. Then there is the athletic portion i.e., football, baseball, etc. Finally they also look at what you have done outside of school like community service, volunteering, and etc.

Resumes have changed a lot in the past few years. Many business want a portfolio. You can search the Internet for samples of pulling a portfolio together. As for your resume, job service will help you pull together a winning resume together.

As for colleges, my suggestion would be to check out colleges or universities that offer classes AFTER you graduate, this allows you to take continuing courses free but you buy your books.

Good luck!
