Meaning , what is valued more ? 10 yrs experience with a high school education ,or a bachelors degree? I know this is wide open but give or take any field i guess. Thanks

The answer to your question really depends on the field – in the short-term. For example: In the technology/ IT field, someone without a degree but ten years experience might actually do very well, sometimes even better than someone with a degree. However, long-term, if you’d like to get into management, you most definitely need that degree. In any field, having at least a Bachelor’s will push you up the ladder faster. Practical experience is important, but so is the foundation that gets you there!

I have 30 years experience in the real world. I have been layed off 6 times in the past 7 years. I have worked temp jobs to pay the bills and even though I have a job with insurance, I am making less money now than I did 25 years ago. You guessed, no degree.

Regardless of what you do, get the education. It doesn’t matter if you are in business or plumbing or working on cars. Look around when you go to interviews, the guy doing the interviewing usually has certificates and degrees on the wall.

well, a BA tells that you are certified to apply your knowledge in a certain field according to an accredited college. But of course, experience is always more important than a degree.

However, it depends. Certainly you will not be hired as a doctor, lawyer nor an engineer without a degree.

Actually, all you have to do is pass the EIT to be an engineer, but good luck trying to pass it unless you can self study really good.

As to your question, it really depends on the job. In some cases, high school education with the experience could work.

Be quicker to get that BS/BA than 10 yrs experience. Usually, you can do internships, research, relevant student/part time jobs. College is expensive got to pay for it somehow.

I depends on the job you want. Some careers need a college degree, and there is no changing that.

From what I’ve seen, college degree/college time will get you through the door faster than experience.

Ultimately, it depends on what you want to do.

This is a darn good question that I have been grappling with for 12 years. The answer to your question is, I believe, not as cut and dry as you have posed your question. The answer is both are important.

For the most part, you will not be given a chance at a position if you don’t have the education AND experience.

The degree. Hands down. The degree.

In science, law, medicine, or engineering, real world experience means nothing without a degree.

a degree is the foundation for a career but real world experience will show you how to apply what you learned to real people, personality, bedside manner* doctors * and a good hear all the learning in the world won’t help if you can’t listen and learn from others.

It relies upon on the sixteen years of adventure. hands-on adventure could supply you some understanding on working a definite gadget or perchance some fundamentals for a commonplace technique. yet there remains value in understanding the way it works, and that’s what the degree can provide.
