Yes, tell your friend to major in something that can get a JOB.

Here’s what some friends of mine did with their majors and I’m not saying this is what will happen if your friend picks these majors, but just sit back and watch the fun begin.

1. Victor – Music Major and fantabulous clarinetist. Works at Best Buy.

2. Sam – Philosophy Major. Works at a Restaurant.

3. Kristan – German Major – working toward Ph.D. in German Studies.

4. Katie – English Major, spent 2 years doing Music Education Major, couldn’t cut it and ended up with a flimsy English Major. Went to get a Master’s in Museum Arts and flew back home from London after graduation, living with parent’s jobless. (Hmm… yeah there’s SUCH a demand for museum jobs)

5. John – Education. Works as a photography teacher at a high school in his 5th year of teaching. Took a couple years of working the grunt job of teaching freshman english before he landed a sweet job.

6. Andy – Computer Science. Works for XBOX in Seattle, but you see, most computer science majors don’t land jobs with Microsoft and Intel. He’s been doing these 6mo – 12 mo temp jobs for 7 years now. You get laid off at the end of each contract for a mandatory 3 months. Sure, you get paid $36/hr, no benefits.

7. Chris – Religion Major. He is now a pastor.

8. Rebekkah – Math Major. Works as an aid for a Law Firm making 18/hr.

9. Bree – Biology Major. Works for a company that tests new products on voluntary people. $15/hr.

10. Anne – Journalism/Communication Major. She couldn’t land an internship after sending out 30 apps. She ended up doing temp work for 2 years and went back to our same university to do a couple course she would need to get into Nursing School. She got rejected from nursing school, and had to go to a different school who would accept her scores.

11. David – Business Major. Worked for 2 years for the same company his father works for, saved money, bought a condo downtown, and is moving onto better things.

Something to think about.

There are many ways for the decision of the future speciality. To begin a choice it is possible from, whether you that your future speciality has been connected with dialogue with people want, work with technics or is more lonely.

If to think, it is possible to allocate some directions:

1. Technical

2. Medical

3. Natural-scientific

4. Humanitarian

5. Military

6. Legal

7. Economic

Having chosen a direction, it is possible to look about specialization.

I hope, it will be useful for you and your friend.

Good luck

Most universities have an Undecided option. You work on your general education classes and attend meetings about various careers. Usually you have to declare a “real” major by the end of your second year.

what is she interested in? Find a passion and pursue it. If she can’t do that then she can always apply undecided and figure it out during her first year or so of college

Many schools do offer a liberal arts degree. Have her look and see what degrees her college offers.
