Look for used (re-sold to bookstore by students who used them) textbooks at your college/university’s bookstore. They are usually in great condition and cost a fraction of the price of new textbooks. If you buy your textbooks online (i.e. at eFollett), you have the order form will usually ask your preference, and you can mark that you want used textbooks if they are available. Another option is to look at textbooks sold by third parties on Amazon.com. Just make sure that you are getting the right edition of the textbook you need.

Used books from your campus bookstore. If you are absolutely certain you know which textbooks and which editions of those textbooks your instructors will be using, you could maybe buy them on Amazon or another similar site.

I use www.bigwords.com to buy all my textbooks. It looks over all the major textbook sites, plus some smaller ones you may not have heard of, and gives you the lowest price.

I tell my own students to try Amazon.

If you happen to live in Denver and be a student at Metro State, CCD, or CU-Denver, there is a lovely independent bookstore in Lower Downtown called “Big Dog Textbooks.” We send our students there all the time.
