Colleges that award AP credit – and bear in mind that not all of them do – do so on the basis of your AP test scores, not the fact that you took the classes. What you could do is take a community college course that would prepare you for a particular subject test, and then sign up to take the test on your own at the nearest testing site (which would most likely be another high school). However, you should check with the schools you’re planning on applying to and see whether the community college courses would transfer on their own first.

AP stands for advanced placement – generally referring to classes you are taking in high school that are above the typical high school curriculum. Because of such, when you take the AP exams, if you receive a score of 3 or above, you are given college unit credits.

You will not find AP courses at community colleges or universities because AP courses is basically college level courses. Take whatever classes you want at your local community college. You have two choices about the grades you receive. You can transfer them back to high school credits and you should be given an extra grade point for the grade you receive… similar to honor or AP classes. Or you can keep them as college units and transfer them when you go to college. If you choose the latter option, you will be entering college already with units completed. And if you take courses like English, psychology, or math, and you do well, you probably won’t have to take these classes again at the college you attend. However, before you take a class, be sure to check with the community college counselor about whether the course will transfer to the university you want to attend. Some universities are strict about the courses they will accept while others are not.

I took several classes at a community college during high school so I entered having almost enough credits to be considered a sophomore.

Good luck!

Usually, AP (Advanced Placement) courses are only offered in high school because they are college level classes. There is no need to have an AP class at a community college because that is a junior college, which would give you college credit already. However, honors programs may be available if you want more of a challenge, but there is no need to have an AP course if you already attend a college. However, this may not be the case with your community college, and I would look it up. Hope this helps!
