You should take a few business courses. Marketing, economics, things centered around business management. Managing a band is like running your own business. It requires marketing savvy, good public relations, and working under pressure, (while everybody else plays).

A business degree is your best bet, but if you want to be well versed in your field, (which gives you an edge in some places), consider a music degree.

Check if your area community college has a music program. Most community colleges with music programs will have a

“music as a business” class which gives you an idea of what the job entails. It all depends on the emphasis of the music school, (for example, the school I went to had an emphasis on classical & jazz technique and childhood education. Others may emphasize recording or classical voice) You can also draw from the knowledge of the instructors in the music department.

I don’t imagine that any formal education is required for that type of work, but I would imagine that classes in music history, marketing and accounting would be helpful to you.
