The key is to make your way to cities like San Francisco, L.A., Seattle, Vegas, etc. Unless you already have connections to the Urban Planning Depts to these cities, it’s going to be a little difficult to get your foot in the door. So start out in a smaller city somewhere close to the big cities. Bulk up your resume then apply to the big city departments.

The developers who have big projects in big cities will pay for any small info coming from the city they are building in. Small info means within the bounds of legality.

So you work in the local gov’t and network with the developers.
