First of all remember to take full advantage of programs aimed at individuals with life experience since this is something that you may have more of than your average HS and college graduate.

There are several routes to becoming a doctor. One possible path would be to go to a community or technical college for two years to get all of your general education requriements out of the way before transferring to a four year college and then medical school. Another route could be going straight to a four year college and then medical school.

I would definitely advise you to take your SATs and ACTs (both tests offer fee waivers and disability accommodations if needed). Because you have a GED and may not have access to a traditional HS transcript having good scores on theses tests could help with college admissions and financial aid.

When you are working towards your BA or BS make sure to connect with an advisor or faculty member who knows a lot about medical school admissions. These individuals can usually be found in the Biology and/or Chemistry departments.

Goodluck!

Yes. You need a high school diploma or a GED to go to any college. First I would advise you to go to a community college and take your general courses. I also live in Phoenix. I’m sure you know about the maricopa community colleges that are all affiliated with one another. Pick the one that is closer to your area. While in college take up a club or an activity like community service. Talk to an advisor at the community college, they will help you out what classes you need to take for med school. Just work hard and you can make it. Never give up. btw, if you want to go and be a doctor then be a doctor. Why waste your time in nursing? Don’t let anyone discourage you.

well peter it is never too late to become a doctor. to sve money start at a JC ( junior college,) take your general classes, and take biology 1 biology 2 chemistry 1 chemistry2, physics1 physics 2, and calculus. You want to apply to a university to recive you BA in any subject, since you have already taken your required classes at a JC, before you could go to medical school without a BA but now you need one. You should be 27 with your BA, In yur junior year take the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test). Star applying to medical school at least 10 medical schools. Medical school is for 4 years, you will ne a doctor at 31or 32, after that you hava to do you residency for 2-4 years. Go to school and get the education do not let any one discourage you

Don’t worry about the first person. What you need to do is go to university, you can probably get into a fairly good one by simply being a mature student. Then you’re going to want to do an undergraduate degree. If you want to be a medical doctor, you’ll do your pre-med requirements. You can qualify for scholarships after your first year if you have a great GPA.

Then when you finish your undergraduate, apply to graduate/medical schools and of course, they don’t look at your high school grades or even want to know if you graduated from high school!

Children typically don’t understand how little high school matters. Good luck pursuing your dreams!

What kind of doctor? PhD, JD, MD? It depends on what you want. You need to get a bachelors degreee and then go to graduate school- if you want to be a medical doctor then go to a medical school. Grades are super important when getting into any type of competitive program. My advice is to take the easiest electives you can to keep your gpa high along with your prereqs like chemistry, bio, anatomy etc. You shouldn’t get grades in those classes less than C. Good luck

Well it’s a long road, but you need an undergraduate degree, usually a Bachelor’s of Science, in biology/biochemistry/pre-med, and to take the MCATS. Then based on your scores and your marks, you then apply to different med schools, and hope you get in. Then I think it may be like 3 years of school and a residency…

Look at schools that offer joint programs, often a school will have a program with another, so if you do a program at that undergrad, get a certain GPA, and get a certain score on the MCATS, you get into that school.

You should just start out community college & then transfer to a university and keep going until you have a phD, but thats gonna take alot of years.

ha ha ha! Only a GED at 23? You are mighty far behind. Do you mean medical doctor or PHD doctor? Either way, they require lots of higher education. Even if you are smart enough, good luck getting tuition money.
