student government vs Calculus BC?

I am trying to decide which class is better for me to take for 1st period…

sadly our high school counts student gov’t as “a class” and it only offers during 1st period !!!

on the other hand, calculus bc is at the community college, but the time is same as our high school’s 1st period !!!! (finished cal AB and passed AP exam)

the teacher who’s incharge with student gov’t class doesnt let me have the class on other free period!!!

So, I want to ask ..which class should I take based on applying UC and good private college?

Do the math

Once you are out of HS, student government will mean nothing to you. Mathematics will help you forever.

If you want to be an engineer or math major, BC might be good. BTW, why can’t the community college just teach calculus and give you a transferable grade? As you probably know, Cal Tech won’t give any credit for AP and other schools are iffy.

If any of the above gives you pause or you have interests in the humanities, student government could be good experience. It’s not like you get to make many real decisions, but having responsibility without authority is common in the “real world” so welcome to it.

And, quit whining about the teacher not letting you do things off-schedule. Schools set schedules because they don’t expect people to do two particular things at the same time. My sons, 5 year apart, never could take AP calculus because it was only offered once a day, opposite the performing choir. Band students were assumed to include honors students, but not the choir. That’s just life.

If you major in college will have anything math related – which if you have already passed AP Calc, it should – I say go with the math.

Unless you are in desperate need of beefing up your resume with social activities – and this does count if you are a close call at universities (my wife worked in admissions at a big university for a year) you may want to go with student gov’t if you would have a leadership position. If this is just to join SGA as a regular member, I would skip it though.

If you are chasing a hottie though – always go that route.

If you are majoring in math in college, I recommend that you take the CalcBC class. If not, I would take the student government class. Also since you are going to a UC, most UCs require a certain score in order for them to accept them, so make sure you at that level.
