It’s an ‘online school’ that is known as a ‘diploma mill’ for-profit school. I don’t believe that most employers find online schools which include devry, strayer, kaplan and kaiser to be reputable. Better off looking into a state college or uni and take classes online at one of those institutions.

I believe that the first responder to this question is incorrect.

A diploma mill is a school that grants diplomas WITHOUT proper accreditation and without having to study for it. University of Phoenix is regionally accredited and recognized by the US Department of Education, which means it is acceptable with ANY employer (as is Devry, Kaplan, etc) and the credits will usually transfer to any school.

Online schools are very good for people who have busy schedules and can’t devote a great deal of time to going to classes. You have online chats and message boards where you can interact with the teacher and students and online study sessions. The books are usually cheaper (some of them are E-books which you can purchase for very little!), and most of the classes can be scheduled in the evening or around YOUR schedule!

The cons would be if you are not a disciplined person, it can be hard to keep yourself motivated. You do have deadlines for turning in assignments and you do have scheduled online tests, but sometimes it can be hard not having a study partner. It’s always a good idea to try and speak to people in your class and try to schedule time with them outside of “school” to meet online and go over material. You may also get lucky and find someone in your local area who you can study with in person!

Of course, University of Pheonix would still cost about the same as a regular university, depending on your course load.

If you can go to a college, then go. Enjoy the life in real college. If you are a single mom who has 2 kids and you only have time in late night, then you can use U of P. But it is not that “credible” source of degree.

It also depend on the degree you are taking, there are some degrees requires more interactive type of working together with teachers. Right now, lots university offers remote campus and online course, try those. I think U of P sounds so commericalized, if you then you get a degree.
