When did pharmacists’ salaries significantly increase?
Growing up I worked in a local pharmacy. I’m kicking myself for not going to pharmacy school. I just remembering thinking they didn’t make that much money and the job didn’t seem too exciting. I thought they made $50k or so back around 1990. Now RPH’s are making $100k+. When did the salary/market for RPHs change?

we did make about 50K in 1990, but inflation has doubled things since then.
But if you want me to point to one year that saw the biggest increase it would be 1991 during the Gulf War. I got almost a 20% raise that year.

Well we started living longer and so our need for health care increased. Therefore the demand of all fields of health care went up in the mid 90’s and just kept increasing. There is a huge demand for Pharmacists right now, so they are making much more. I don’t see a decrease in this for many years to come. My daughter in the 7th grade and hopes to become a Pharmacist and I am highly encouraging of this. I know that if she goes to college for this field she will have security in her future.

The salary started to increase significantly in the mid to late 1990s. In the mid-90s, average salary was somewhere in the 60k region. Average starting salary in retail is now about $100k.

I don’t think all of them are making that much. Ususally it’s the ones the are store managers at places like CVS or Rite Aide. I think the secondary ones are only making $50k-$60k
