Community College/University?

I’m a junior in High School this year and I’m starting to look into what college I should go to. Other than sororities and dorm rooms what’s the difference? Do jobs look down on people who went to Community College to get a degree rather than Univeristy? My GPA’s not high enough to go to University but my councellor told me if I got all A’s these next 2 years, my GPA would jump high enough to barely make it into Michigan State but if I do good enough on SAT/ACT I have a good chance on getting in. Is it worth improving that much over?

High school does not matter. Your future does not depend on high school. If you don’t do well in high school for whatever reason, but are intelligent, you can always take the time off formal education to experience life and later go as a mature student or enroll in a community college for a year or two and then transfer.

Being a poor student in high school means nothing, besides, anecdotal evidence suggests that most A students in high school turn into C students in university while the bored under stimulated types from high school excel in the college environment. If you work hard and find something to be passionate about, college isn’t like high school where you just mimic your instructors and regurgitate fact.

Personal examples:

I hated high school and I barely graduated. I think I got mostly D’s my final year because I was too bored with the assignments and only did enough work to pass such as getting As on exams and never doing assignments. I wanted to go to university eventually, so I went to community college for a year got a 4.0 while I was there and transferred without a problem.

My fiance dropped out of high school when he was 17, lived his youth how he needed it to be and is now going to university as a mature student. He’s doing very well and considering graduate school in the future.

You need to decide what kind of photography you are interested in. If you are leaning towards art then go to a university – if you have a career in photo in mind a good two-year program will give you the best start – then go on to complete a Bachelors Degree.

theres two ways: 1) graduate from a university will get you a BS or BA, bachlor degree or 2) community college will get you a AA or transfer later to a univiersity, which can still get you the BS or BA.

i think you should get the best grades you can get and apply, never know the answer unless you apply.

good luck
