Transfering from NYU to Harvard…?

I am an undergrad student, studying Liberal Arts full-time at NYU. I just completed my 1st year and I have a 4.0 GPA — but I have never taken my SATs. I have worked really great positions for the past 4-years (I am 23), such as consulting for multibillion dollar financial corporations and I have worked at USA TODAY in their marketing department. That said, I am looking to do an undergrad transfer to Harvard and I am curious what you think my odds are of getting accepted. Is there anything that I should really focus on in my application and do I really have to take the SATs, considering my work experience and GPA? Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

You have to take the SAT. I think your chances are pretty good if you get a stellar score on your SAT, since NYU is a pretty good school and you have impressive accomplishments on your resume. You may want to try a few other schools too such as Stanford and Wharton.

Best of luck to you.

Your chances, unfortunately, are very low–not because you’re not a great student and prospect, but because Harvard has very few slots for transfer students. In fact, they cut that number in half this year.

Already, the chances were low. Last year, Harvard received 1,000 applications for 75 transfer spots–a less than 10% acceptance rate.

Additionally, you really will need to take the SAT test.

I’m assuming you go to NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, considering they don’t require the SAT?

You have great stats, and good work experience. You need to take the SAT, and focus on your transfer essay. Harvard will want to know why, specifically, Harvard is a better school for you than where you are. (Simply, “Harvard is the best” won’t do. You really need to tell them why Harvard has something for you that NYU doesn’t.)

Good luck.

Yep, you’ll need to take the SAT or the ACT, so get studying! I’m not sure how you even got into NYU without either of those tests.

Harvard (like many top schools) do not take many transfers. It doesn’t matter how good you are, your chances are slim.

good luck though.
