Transcript Request Problems??

I am trying to apply to graduate school for spring of 2008. So far I have applied to 3 different schools. The problem is that everytime I request transcripts to my undergrad, the school that i am appling to will email me and say they have not received my transcripts yet. I call my undergrad to ask them if they have sent it (b/c it is way to far away to go to ) and everytime they say that they have sent it. But my schools that I am applying to says that they are just not getting it at all. Last time I had to pay to fed ex my transcripts just so that I could have a tracking on it and someone sign for it. My question is, how can i solve this problem?? I obviously have to have an official copy from the school. My undergrad just mails it and does track it. I am extremely frustrated b/c my transcripts have not been getting anywhere and my undergrad keeps swearing they sent it, but the graduate schools keep saying they are not getting it. Currently this is happening. what can i do?

I have always just requested that my university just send official transcripts in a sealed envelope to me then I send it in with my application. I usually order several copies so I always have some on hand in case I need them for whatever reason, like job or scholarship applications. You do need to double check because some institutions won’t accept even official transcripts in a sealed envelope if you sent them, but a good majority do.

That sounds frustrating. Did you double check the addresses to which you sent the transcripts? It could be that the papers got lost in the mail, or they may be in the graduate school office where your academic department can’t view them. Grad school applications must be reviewed by the department itself, not just the admissions office. I would call each school at the number for their grad school office and ask if they’ve received your transcripts. If so, ask them to forward it to the department of your choice.

If the transcripts are lost in the mail, could you get a personal copy from your undergrad office sent to you and then mail it to the grad schools yourself? I know that seems inefficient, but they certainly aren’t letting you do this the easy way. In the meantime, you could call the admissions offices at your prospective grad schools. For each one, ask to speak to the secretary. Briefly explain your problem and then ask her if you can send an unofficial transcript for the dept. to review and use it as a placeholder for the official document which is on its way. It could be that the documents are on the way and they’re just slow to arrive. This happened when I sent my GRE scores for my spring 2008 grad school applications. They took a while, but they finally arrived. I hope you can get your paperwork sorted out soon, and good luck!

I know it’s a hassle but you may want to give a call to the schools that have not yet sent your transcripts. In doing so you will find out where they are in the process and who you can direct your focus upon. This will also allow you to tell the college you’re applying to where the transcipts are and when they can expect them to arrive. More than anything it will give you peace of mind. Perhaps you can write all of their numbers down tonight and then tomorrow in the morning you can give them all a call. Don’t dare call at lunch time or close to the end of the day because you’ll be even more frustrated than you are now. Good luck, Doctor D.

Have your undergrad school send the transcripts to you and then you can send them to the schools you’re applying to.

Make sure your name is in the system correctly. When I was trying to get my transcripts in one system it was under my maiden name and in another they mistaken a D for an O so they couldn’t find them until I got on the phone and harped on them. Hope you get them soon.

Sounds like all you can do is ask that they send it by courier and pay for the cost of that service.
