In at least my experience, what you belong to doesn’t necessarily mean a whole lot unless perhaps if you’re willing to put in lots of time to get into their national scholarship competitions with a high likelihood of very little to no payback.
Now, I definitely would recommend trying to get yourself into leadership positions in the organizations you do join. . . particularly if they’re departmental ones and there isn’t much interest in taking on those side jobs. Sometimes they’ll give out some smaller scholarships to their officers during the semester(s) they’re holding said office. And, hey, it always looks good on a resume!

Just get a job. Seriously. Your odds are 100% at getting money, and if a college realizes that your extracurriculars aren’t up to the normal standard because you needed to work to earn money, they will understand.
