taking a break before college?

i have taken a lot of difficult classes in high school and right now i am 17 and a senior. i know that i will have to get a good scholarship to go to college but i don’t know if i want to go next year. i am thinking about getting a job to save money for a while (maybe a year or two) to get my head together. i have an idea of what i want to do for a career but i would really like to find out if i like it before i spend a lot of money in college for a degree and find out a year out of college that i hate it. would this be a plan or not. personal experience would really help.

If you HAVE to take a break after HS, then do it. If you dont’ have to, then don’t. Like the other guy said, it’s very hard to get back in. A lot of people get “trapped” cuz they fall into the routine of working and like to earn money so they can spend it.

If money is a concern, then going to a junior college first is also an option. Be careful, it’s easy to get trapped there also.. it’s almost like an extension of HS at junior college.

Would your folks let you take what’s known as a gap year in Australia and NZ? Go abroad and get a working holiday visa. Travel and see what life is like before you make a final decision about your studies.

I think that your parents would prefer that you carry on with school. You might also want to check out some vocational self tests online to see what kinds of jobs would suit your needs and interests.

I did that, and I don’t advise.

Taking a year off and working, then going back to school is really hard. I got so used to just working, and being lazy after work, that when I started to go back to school, I hated it.

You seem like you get good grades, I would just go straight to college.
