Switching externship sites. Did I do the right thing?

I go to school for medical assisting, last minute my school switched my externship site nowhere near my home. I started my first day, and out of the 6 hours being at this site, I did about a total of 10 mins on the phone and 20 mins filing folders, other then that I sat in a chair all day and did nothing. I asked if I could help but no one directed me what to do or where to go. I did not even meet the doctor until I left for the day! The lady that hired me on did not even know when I was suppose to return again. I felt like it was an unprofessional site and I did not learn anything. My advisor at school disagreed with me, and told me I make the school look bad by withdrawing from it. Shouldn’t the students education come first and not the schools reputation? Did I do the right thing by withdrawaling?
