Swag

If I persue a degree in pharmacy will i still have a life?

I’m fresh out of high school and plan on starting the pre-pharmacy program in college. I heard that becoming a pharmacists takes a lot of studing time. I was just wondering would I still be able to hang out with my friends and family.

In my school there were some students that partied all the time and still passed and then there were other students that studied all the time; I was somewhere in between.

At my school pre-pharm wasn’t that bad, but there were a few nights that I wanted to rip my hair out, but now it’s over and it was worth it. First year at my school, the hardest class was gen chem which wasn’t too bad. Second year you have organic chem, physics, and human physiology which are somewhat tough but not impossible. Nothing in pre-pharm will really keep you from having a life. Once you get to actual pharm classes it will change a little bit. In my school, I actually thought that the first semester of my first professional year was easier than my pre-pharm class, but when second semester came along it was a real wake up call, but as long as you take it seriously and do what you have to do it’ll be fine.

Odds are there will be days at a time, especially around exam time, that your life will be nothing but pharmacy, pharmacy and more pharmacy, but there will also be tons of time where you’ll get to spend with your friends and family, but even if you do end up having no life in pharmacy school, it’s only for a few years and then when its done your all set for the rest of your life.

It is worth it in the end, the time you put in you truly do get alot of out it.

Just make time to spend with them and stick to your studing also.

My husband and some in his class found that the whole drug remembering thing was easiest when they put them index cards and literally walked around repeating them.

But he put in alot of work but our kids and I never felt neglected. Heck i even had a baby in the middle of it and never did i feel let down on the time he was able to spend with us.

But it was worth it because he is happy now in his job.

Good luck and remember what you want in the end is worth alittle sacrafice to get there

For some reason the question made me smile.

I spent a total of 9 years (BS in Chem+4 yrs of Pharm School+1 year of residency) earning my Pharm.D. Was it easy? Hell no. Was it worth all the missed dates, the failed relationships, and sleepness nights?

Yes it was….

As pre-professional programs go, pre-pharmacy is of rather average difficulty. Pay attention to how you manage your time and you’ll be fine.

Just have a weekly “date” with your fam and friends…all the studying will be SO worth it! You will be able to afford to give them some VERY nice gifts later on…and you will be doing something worthwhile, too.

You’ll be busy…but not to the exclusion of some time with others…don’t let that stop you, it’s a worthwhile profession…
