I MISS YOU!

Should I take college algebra and pre-calculus at the same time?

Will it be too hard or should I be okay?

I dont think you should. You may learn some things at the end of the Algebra class that might of helped you get better grades at the beginning of the pre-calculus class. Maybe take the pre-calculus in the summer after this year??

Pre-calculus and trig should be very similar in that they attempt to prepare you for the sneaky trigonometry that seems to pop up in 80% of the work you do in Calculus, as well as an introduction to the limit in pre-calc. College algebra will likely be material that you covered not in pre-calc or trig, but in Algebra 2 in high school.

Well, it depends. Are you an excellent student in algebra and pre-calculus? Are your grades good? Do you study enough? You should first start off with something small because you don’t want to over-due it, you know? I mean, it depends on your study schedule and grades to show the difficulty of algebra and pre-calculus, but it also depends on what you really WANT to learn too. You’re going to want to learn what you find interesting, as well, to do well and achieve.

depends how you feel. i would personally say “take the algebra first”, and the calculus after, because you really need to be very familiar with algebra to UNDERSTAND calculus. i dont think you can do it at the same time. but thats me, you might be a whizz kid genius that im not. still. one at a time i think.you have plenty of time to do college level stuff when you are actually in college. if youre better than everyone else, well, that means you can relax for one of your classes. best of luck anyway, whatever you do.

It depends on your study habits, but I definitely think it is do-able. Over the summer some of my friends took both College Algebra and Trigonometry. They all did pretty well and those courses were accelerated, 6-week classes. I think that as long as you study you will do just fine.

I think they may play off of each other well. I say go for it. One will help you with the other. I did that when I took Business Finance and Accounting together. I got a better understanding of the two. However, if you struggle in math subjects I would not suggest doing this. Go for it if math is a strong point for you.

No, one or the other. Since this is the Higher Ed forum, i assume you are in college. You may not have a choice. In most colleges and universities, you are placed in courses based on standardized test results.

It depends on how good you are at catching on to math concepts and just how much homework you want to do each night. Personally, I wouldn’t do it for the simple reason of keeping my GPA high.

I highly doubt that you will be able to considering that college algebra is usually the prerequisite to precalculus.

Only if you’re really really good at math. If you’re not too great at it and only want to take it just to get them out of the way, you’ll be sorry.
