Should i go for an MBA Degree? Is it worth it?

I am a junior in college and already having thoughts of getting an MBA. My plan is to work for 2-3 years after i graduate and then apply to a top MBA program. I am getting my bachelor’s degree in accounting. So far i have a 4.0 GPA, work as an accountant right now, have joined clubs, and will be doing community service this year. Is this good enough credentials to apply for a top MBA programs after working full time for 2-3 years? I was raised to do the best i can and having a bachelor’s degree is just not good enough and i dont want to stop there. However, if i dont know what i really want to do in life or what my career goal is, then why go for the MBA? The other thing is that the college i am in now is not the best school, it is a california state college. I could have gone to better schools, but financially i could not afford universities. I am making the best of my situation, but i always wanted to go to a good school and get my MBA. What should i do? Any advice? Thanks

The reason you work for 2-3 years is to find out what you do like. For it to be worth it, you have to want to go, and you have to go to a good school (name is important when you get out, as you have already learned with your undergrad or you wouldn’t be making excuses about it already)

You’re doing all the right things so far. Don’t worry about the ranking of your undergraduate institution as long as you’re taking challenging classes both in and out of your major and doing well in them. Also, don’t worry about not having career goals yet: that’s part of the reason you’re encouraged to get out into the workforce and explore before applying. Eventually (probably not too long if you’re as driven as you sound), you’ll hit a point where you know you’ll need the degree to reach your full potential. Stay active with community work and associations after you graduate, make sure you score well on the GMAT, and you’ll be as well-positioned for a top program as anyone possibly can be.

MBA is a good career path for students with any background. MBA is a two-year full time programme offered by number of institutes in India. The ivy league includes the IIMs, ISB, JBIMS, XLRI, MDI, IIFT, etc. During the first year of MBA, students learn about the various aspects of the management i.e general management, marketing, production, finance, hr etc.In the second year, the students have to choose specialization. Apart from the most common specializations i.e marketing, hr, finance and production that are offered by most institutes, we also find institutes offering specialization in international business, biotechnology, project management, healthcare management etc etc.

The admission to any management institute or B-School is through written test like CAT/ MAT/ ATMA/ XAT/ JMET/ CET etc. followed by group-discussion and personal interview. Some institutes conduct case-studies and extempore as a part of the selection process. You can the details on various institutes and the entrance exams on http://www.myeduplanet.com
