Should I go back to school and get my Associates Degree in Game Technology?

I am currently attending a community college for Information Technology which I will be completing in about 1 year. After I get my degree, I was thinking of going back and getting a second associates degree in Game Technology. Do you think this is a wise decision? Also, what is the job outlook for people in the video game industry. I love computers and I love video games. Please help!!

I would suggest going on to get your bachelor’s degree rather than 2 associates degrees.

Here is why:

A bachelor’s degree is worth more professionally. At some point you will get tired of just working under someone else. A BS will provide the opportunity.

A second associate’s degree will add a few more skills perhaps but it won’t get you further income wise. Money does matter at some point.

Gaming is really fun…..but the profession has competition like you wouldn’t believe. Lots of people lot computers and video games. But there are few jobs, look to see how many video gaming jobs are advertised. That should tell you.

A BS in computer science or something else for that matter, will give you better job prospects in the future. So when you finish you may want to secure a job and then go back to school in the evenings perhaps.

This is just my suggestion, good luck. I have alot of education and looking back I am recommending what will pay off the most later for you.

Try to land a job in gaming industry or related field. 2 years of hands on job experience will be 10 times more valuable and rewarding than a redundant degree.

Now, if it was for a 4 year degree, it would of a different matter.

If you are going to devote another 2 years to a degree, go and get a bachelor’s degree instead of another associates. It will get you further.
