Scared and Nervous about getting into College?

I am going into the eleventh grade and I have already been thinking about college for years but now it has crept up so fast and i’m very nervous. So lately I have been doing more and more research on colleges and I have read many things that suggest students should take the PSAT’s and other pratice tests for the ACT’s starting in the eighth grade and that you should take the real test in the fall of junior year. I haven’t taken any practice tests at all. Is this very bad? And should I get a move on them as soon as possible?

All practice tests are for is to show you how the real test will be and generally the types of questions that will be on them. You can get in there for the real thing, and for some people the practices helped, and some people they didn’t.

Honestly, the tests really aren’t that hard, just really long. Go in there well rested and concentrated and you should be absolutely fine =) Remember, don’t stress it! You can always take them again if you don’t like your first score!

Yes, get to it right now. Most important of all is learning vocabulary words. That is the number one score-booster. It is not really possible to study up for the math SAT, that is kind of an IQ test, as long as you know basic algebra and geometry. But you should buy the big practice book with the 10 sample tests in it (cost about 20 bucks) and underline every single word you don’t know when you take the sample tests. After you do each sample test, look up all the underlined words and memorize them (file cards!!!) Then move on to the next sample test. By the time you finish the whole book, you are so good to go.

Most schools only have you start taking the practice PSAT tests starting in 10th grade. However, it is important that you start studying. Buy yourself a PSAT book {Borders/ Barnes& Nobles~ $30} and start reviewing everyday for at least 20 minutes a day. Since you haven’t had much practice, you should probably review even more. Good Luck!
