I’ll throw in my 2 cents. I would go with Ohio State University. Unless you have unlimited funding, really consider going to the best instate school you can get into, for your field. The amount of money it will cost will be a fraction. I went instate and my loan is just a chip compared to what some old buds of mine have accumulated. They just had to go to X school. Their choice, but it is not easy starting out a career and having this huge debt following you for 30 years. College tuition is like everything else that you spend money on, you have to consider value.

there are plenty of colleges in the midwest area that are just as good as NYU. personally, i think of NYU as a name-brand school. it is a wonderful place to go, and it’s a unique experience in its own, but being from Indianapolis, I don’t think I could make that change to such a big city AND college all at once. Plus, I just can’t afford $46,000 annual tuition.

I’m going to apply to Indiana University Bloomington and Butler. I am positive I will get into IU, and if I get into Butler I will immediately start looking for scholarships. I’d rather go to a school in the midwest area, I love my family too much to be 8-10 hours away. I know nothing about Ohio University.

If you think that you can get into NYU, then I’m sure you can. It’s the can-do attitude that gets a lot of people to the top, the level where you want to be. Just keep in mind what you think you can handle.

Besides, you could always go to NYU for grad school =]

I would say NYU just because New York has more career opportunities. You could get a job while you’re going to school in the field that you want to go into and possibly work your way up the ladder when you graduate. Parents are always going to be protective…I moved away from home at 17 for school and definitely learned a lot so I think it would be good for you.

I would say NYU would be the best choice. Isn’t it the fashion capital of the US? There’s so much fashion and stuff to do in New York so I’m sure you’ll be open to a lot of opportunities. A lot of fashion magazines are actually written, edited, and published in NYC. I believe they also have great internships! So, go with NYU!!!

As for the problem with your mom, just talk to her about it. Tell her how you feel and how much you want to pursue your dream. Ask her if you can visit the campus. I’m sure she’ll see it’s a great environment for you.

I think NYU would actually be the best choice. Plus if you’re in NYC you’re exposed to so much culture and can really network with people you would work for in the future. Alternatively, both the University of Southern California and Columbia have great journalism programs.

well..try stanford. it’s in california, and it’s my dream college. sigh* it’s private too (just to give you a heads up, so it might be a bit more expensive, but a good education is worth it)
