Recommendtion letter MUST be from teachers who taught academic subjects?

so i have a problem with my recommendation letter.

i need two teachers, one of which i have no problem with, and the rest are bleh…..

i took AP history and it started at 7:00 am and i aced all the tests but im constantly late which brings down my grade by 20 points =/

anyway i need to get two recommendations, but for the second one, i was wondering if i can get my College now teachers to write one, since im mostly active in those classes, or my national honor society teacher.

also can i get the place where i do volunteer work to write a recommendation as well? are they taken into consideration for colleges?

Any teacher, who personally taught you, should satisfy the requirement. It can be a college instructor or your sophmore Geometry teacher.

Your NHS sponsor can write the letter, but only if your were a student in one of his/her classes.

Any teacher whom you have had in an academic subject — preferably in your junior or senior year — is acceptable for a college recommendation letter.

As for what was suggested before me, do NOT write the letter yourself and have a teacher sign it. It is considered dishonest at the vast majority of colleges and universities and you don’t want to get off on that foot, and the letters could be thrown out. It’s great that you’ve done volunteer work, but a letter of rec from the volunteer place will not give the admissions department any idea on how you’ll do academically, which is the main factor in your admittance to the institution.

Unless you’ve had an actual academic class with your NHS teacher, they are not a good rec either.

You don’t have to get your AP teacher to write one — surely you’ve had other teachers in classes where you’ve done better. I would look to those.

Well your kinda vague since you write must but then ask. What do the rules of whatever your applying for say.

Must it be a teacher that taught you?

Could it be a teacher/sponsor of a club or organization you were a member of?

Read the rules.

i don’t know if letter of recommdations have to be just from teachers but colleges love seeing a lot volunteer work. I think getting a letter of recommdations from where you volunteer would be a good choice. if your not sure if where you volunteer should write your letter of recommadation ask your school counslor but just to tell you colleges love to see the volunteer stuff. hope this helps.

The teacher has to have taught you in a classroom, that’s the only rule colleges state.

I’d ask the guidance counselor and go from there, as for the volunteer work, yes, they can write a recommend letter as well……

you can talk to your teachers and as them if they will sign a letter of recommendation for you that you have written yourself. there are lots of great examples on the net and it will save your teachers from having to write it themselves.

big plus if you ask me!
