Instead, I strongly suggest that you go to school in person, and to a reputable school at that. Employers strongly prefer that you attend in person. If, however, you absolutely, physically can NOT set foot on a campus, at least select an online program that is attached to a reputable offline university. I’ll give a few examples, below, all schools with decent reps, which offer degrees online as well:
University of Massachusetts at Amherst
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
University of Denver
University of Maryland
Duke University
Drexel
Carnegie Mellon
Penn State
Ball State
U Nebraska – Lincoln
Babson
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
University of Illinois
Penn State
Colorado State U
The New School
And there are others. But in general, when you’re looking for a distance learning degree, try to find a program at a school that has a good reputation for their “brick and mortar” campus.
So also look at your own state colleges, and, if an associates is what you want, also your local community college. You may be surprised at what they offer online/via distance.
It costs more than reputable public universities. There have been some scandals there. They were recently fined a record $9.8MM for sleazy recruiting practices and are now being investigated for padding their placement numbers.
Many companies will not hire their graduates. Companies like Intel refuse to pay for their employees to take classes there because they lack rigor.
While they claim to be accredited — they only have the easy-to-get regional accreditation and lack the more prestigious national accreditation that reputable universities get.
Avoid it like the plague.
