What GPA should I be getting in college?

I am going into my 4th quarter in community college. I have a GPA of a 2.59. My goal is to get a 3.0 next quarter. How long should I study for? and what grades should I be getting?

I think one question that we don’t know the answer to is what the school you are currently attending is basing their GPA on – is it a 4.0 scale or a 5.0 scale… If it’s a 4.0 scale (where an A is a 4.0), then you would need to get more A’s & B’s (preferrably more A’s) to keep the GPA up. Any C’s, and you’re going to hurt the chance for that 3.0.

As far as studying goes, you really need to study until you feel confident you know the material you are reviewing. If you believe that you can go into an exam, or turn in a paper and get a high grade, you should be ok!

Good luck with your studies.

I think it depends on your major and the college you area attending. I believe you need a 2.0 to graduate from a community college, but check with your counselor. However most four year schools require at least a 2.5 for transfer students and in many cases 3.0 to get into a specific major such as accounting or engineering. I would recommend you study at least two hours for every credit hour and you should be studying before each class, this way you will be familiar with the material. Read each chapter assigned, outline the material and go over the questions at the end of the chapter. Pay special attention to the syllabus and make sure you ace the class participation and homework assignments. I think if you do this, your grades will go up dramatically.

Good Luck!

Your going to need all A’s and that’s not a promise it will come all the way up to a 3.0. It depends on the number of hours that make up your 2.59. It’s always easier to lower your GPA than raise it. Study really hard and try picking up hints from other who have already taken the class. Good luck!

You should be doing as well as you are capable of doing. It is all very well to say that you “should” have a 3.0, or a 3.8, but I don’t know if that is realistic for you. Assuming you can do better, you need to know that if you have goals of going on for graduate school, you will have problems with a GPA under 3.0. If you are looking toward transferring in your junior year to a 4-year school, the likelihood of your getting in varies, depending on where you apply and who else is in the pool. Obviously, the better you do, the greater your chances.

study until you are certain you know the material. To be on the safe side, I didn’t really do the math since I dont know how many classes you are going to take, but get at least one A and the rest B’s, it will be very risky if you get another C so avoid those.

I suggest that you utilize a gpa calculator.
