You get a BS in Pre Med from an acceptable Biology or Bio-Chemistry major.
Then you do 4 years in Med School which is about 100 hours a week of work for 4 years. Pharmachology, biology, microbiology, antomy, phyisology, cutting up (disecting) cadavers and doings rounds work in the hospitals and clincs.
You have to look for a research project to join and you have to do an independent project (usually in tandem with the group research project) and get published.
Third and fouth year is mostly in the Hospitals, Clinics and Research labs. You will work holiday weekends, be on-call eveyr 8-12 weeks (that’s a 80-120 hour shift).
If you meet the criteria you get a DM or MD and then you find a hospital to intern in for 1 year, mostly in the ER and on rotation rounds.
After that you take a test for a license in the state where you will practise or resident.
Then you decide which surgery to do. There is General Surgery, the most popular. That’s tonsilecotomies, hernia repairs, gall badder removal, liver sections, hysterecotomies.
There is Throact surgery with is lungs, breast, neck and possbily heart if it’s Cardio Throactic.
There is Plastic.

Nueruosugery
Vasciular Surgery
Cardio-Vascual Surgery
Sugery residents generally do 4-7 years depending on type (general is about 4-5 years).
You get a stipend of $25K or so a year (could also be room board and a smaller $8K stipend).
After you complete either Senior or Chief resident work you can apply to the Boards for a Diploma
Once you are a diplomate in the field you are job ready.
Typical Diplomate makes $200K+ a Year
