OK to be a doctor?
Favorite Answer
Once you get your bachelor’s degree and have completed the courses required for admission to medical school, you apply to a medical school (This is a completely different school than the college you graduated from) , which takes an additional four years. You have to go to medical school to become a doctor. Upon graduation from medical school, you will get your M.D, and then you will complete a resident that usually lasts between 3-7 years so that you can be trained in your specific field (Surgeon, Pediatrician, Family Doctor, etc.)
Good luck!
Where you go for medical school is generally more important where you went for your undergraduate degree.
Also, you do not have to go to the same college for both your bachelor and medical degrees. In fact, some medical schools prefer their students come from other colleges.
Many undergraduate colleges offer a pre-med program. Otherwise, I would urge you to major in chemistry or biology, while taking other science classes to prepare you for medical school.
