NOT sending my AP scores…?

I plan on not sending my AP test scores to colleges. How will this effect my acceptance possibility?? I know it will have a bad impact, but I don’t know how much.

Other than my AP test grades, my overall GPA and SAT scores rank the first in my year. And I’ve got outstanding extra curriculars and teacher recs, etc. But last year, I had some personal problems and didn’t do well on the AP exams. Is it still possible to aim for decent colleges without sending my AP scores? Please help!

I don’t recommend it. Schools tend to look at AP scores as another piece of information about your academic profile. By refusing to send them in, it will lead them to wonder the obvious- why? When in doubt, they will assume the worst. The AP exam is also another way to compare your ability across another national standard. Some secondary schools are notorious for giving A’s to a majority of its students, but when faced with the AP exam, they fail to perform. You do not want to be lumped into this category. Send them in with a short explanation of your performance. It shouldn’t be too whiny, but should notify them that the scores are not indicative of your true potential and ability. It also depends on what colleges you are aiming for too…

don’t worry about your AP scores meaning how you performed on them…as long as everything else is fine, a couple of bad ap scores will not do any damage…if anything you can explain to the college in one of your essays what effected you that you weren’t able to perform so well…

i did not do well on one of my ap’s but all else was fine and i got into ucla…a classmate of mine took 2 ap’s in high school and got a 1 on one of them and a 3 on the other, she had like one honors class, and pretty ok grades like a’s and b’s and her extracurriculurs were not that impressive and shes now going to UCSD…you should send them in because it shows the college that you took initiative to enroll in a college level course…also if you wrote down your ap scores on your application then you have to send them in(they will ask for them)…i wouldn’t send them in only if i like failed them all and had no good reason why

well it sounds like you have a lot going for you. with your great grades and sat scores along with your extra curriculars you shouldn’t have a problem. although colleges might question why you aren’t sending the scores, you have a lot to back yourself up. have you considered retaking the tests this year?

they automatically send a report to your house, how else will you find out what you got? haha. also, when you put the college you want them to send your scores to, they automaticallly send all your scores, even from previous years, for free.
