Does not taking physics hurt your chances of getting into a college for pre-med?

i wanna take pre-med as a major but my guidance counsler says thats not gonna happen if u wanna get into a competitve college…is that true???

I’d recommend taking physics just to have the background. I haven’t had it come up in my studies as a major role, but there were some points in early classes that were almost straight review of high school physics. It may be different for you, depending on what courses you’re gonna have to take, but I would recommend it as a “just in case” measure.

I don’t think there is such a major as “pre-med”, but here’s the deal —- you should take physics in high school because if you do want to eventually get into medical school, you will have to take physics at the college level as a requirement for med school, and getting exposure to it in high school first can only benefit you.

Most colleges require University Physics I and II for admission to medical school. So, I’d say it’d be a good option.
