It’s a hard decision, I know. I’ve always thought that you should go to school to learn about something that interests you, instead of just going to focus on grades and getting a job. That being said, college is really expensive… Still, I think you should focus on learning something that you really want to learn, and from the way you worded your question, that seems to be the liberal arts route. I’m reminded of something I heard once: “I chose a major I like and one day I’ll be living in a box”. But at least you’ll be happy in that box instead of miserable in a mansion.

You have no job security either way. Most engineering is getting outsourced overseas. I think that whatever you decide to do , you must be good at it. Most people are lucky to find a job that they can make a good living at. It is really a blessing when you love what you do AND are good at it. Does not really happen unless you plan for it. Make use of those school guidance counselors … take some apptitude tests / look at your previous records .. what are you good at . what are YOU willing to work at ? ask them what the top fields are going to be when you graduate. I’d pick one of the fields that I thought made sense. Work is work. You do it for profit. Do what you enjoy doing outside of work. There are plenty of volunteer activities.

take the first option now, graduate, make money and go for the second while having something that’s already established to support it. if you like the second better, this path would only be a temporary delay before you can do what you love to.

if you are not going to follow your own heart and interest and talents then you might just as well go toss a coin and leave it to heads or tails.
