Low GPA med school help!!!?

First 2 years of college i had no idea what i wanted to do. I screwed off semester after semester. After 2 years i have an overall gpa of 2.8 and a science gpa of around 3.5. I run track and field and it is the main problem for my low grades. I literally practice from noon to 5 daily and during my spring semesters i go to class maybe 1 or 2 days a week due to all of the track trips. My question is, if i drop track and concentrate on school, and then get practically all A’s from here on out, i can get my GPA up to about a 3.2 overall and 3.7 science. Is this still to low to get into med school? Will they take track into consideration for my first 2 years? I know other things matter such as mcat. But as far as gpa goes, is 3.2 too low?

A GPA of 3.2 is still low for medical school. I know people who had 3.9s and still did not get in. You should definetly stop doing track and concentrate on studying if medical school is where you really want to get into. Talk to your school’s premed advisor. He/she may be able to help. Study hard for the MCAT and get a good score. Also, get some volunteer hours in hospitals if you have not done so already. One good thing you can get out of this is that med school admission comittees will be able to appreciate your 2 year track team effort.

CMThornton is right. Getting a 3.2 is still pretty low when it comes to getting into med school. You’re correct by saying that other things matter such at the MCAT so study for that and do well. If you do want to have a chance you need to concentrate on getting your grades up and getting all you can out of your classes. Take up a new activity or become part of another organization that focuses on something surrounding the medical field.

It may help your GPA by being more organized (arrow in the dark…)
