Is this idea realistic?

I am a Biochemistry major with a pre-med track. I’ve been thinking about taking the requirements for a science teacher certification…it will take me a half of semester longer after I graduate. My ultimate goal is to become an OB/GYN but I was thinking of working during medical school…if possible and realistic…I know the course load in medical school is very rigorous but I’m just wondering if anyone else has done the same. Please let me know what you think..good advice is always blessed advice.

While it is possible to work part time while attending medical school, it is ill-advised. You would be risking your objectives for a comparatively small amount of money.

Everybody is concerned about loan debt. The average medical student graduates with about $200,000 of student loan debt, yet the average physician retires that debt in 7 years. There are also many enticements offered to new graduates that include paying off student loans.

If teaching is a passion, go for it after you complete your medical training.

I didn’t go to med school, but one of my undergrad roommates did. By combining his stories of med school with my own experience teaching, I can tell you that even though your idea is realistic, you definitely do NOT want to try and hold down a job as a science teacher while you are in med school. You’d die from lack of sleep alone in the first year.

Why would you want to work during med school? If your going to be a doctor, you’ll make way more than you need after school.
