I took it with no preparation and It was the easiest thing I’ve ever taken. It took me a total of 3 days to obtain my G.E.D (the pre-test took a day and the actual test took 2 days). I passed every test with a passing score and actually ended up receiving a scholarship from the testing site. I was out of high school for about 3 years before I finally stopped being lazy and took the test ( i was an extreme slacker in high school, i never payed attention and I missed ALOT of days)

The test is not hard depending on how well you did in high school. If you didn’t do so well, it might take you a while, but its possible to obtain.

Your scores will be treated like grades when you enter college. If you had a lower score in a certain subject (like math) you may have to take a remedial course in college to get you up to speed so you might want to start off in a community college then transfer to a regular university.

G.E.Ds will not stop you from getting into a college, but most colleges will make you “prove” yourself in some form of provisional status, or by making you enter into an undecided or 2 year program first.

As to how hard the G.E.D test is…well…it’s all 4 years of high school wrapped into 1 small test, it’s not easy but it’s not super hard either.

Getting your G.E.D. is not exactly easy. Its high school diploma equivalent. If you can get your G.E.D., you should have no more than normal difficulty with undergraduate studies. No one ever said the road to success was paved with rose petals, there’s gonna be lots of thorns on the way. Go around them if you can, but know that sometimes you’ll have to blast your way through.

From what I have heard, the G.E.D. is simple. A sample reading questions I heard of is, Tom has a blue car. What color is Tom’s car? Science questions get a bit tricky though.

If you have a problem getting a G.E.D., going to a 4 year university will be no walk in the park. It will not get any easier.

You should definitely take the time to prepare for it, if that is what you are asking. The idea is that this test will give you a grade equivalent to what you would have received in H.S. It is based on your knowledge and abilities, and is supposed to make sure that you could make the grade at a high school level.

As far as college, you expect the same thing everyone else does. A harder, more rewarding educational experience.

My understanding is that no, it’s not easy, but it is worth it. A friend of mine had a GED when she started undergrad and she did just fine–and now has a Master’s degree.
