Interesting Transfer Question – Past Transcripts from other colleges required?

I had two years at a school where I basically screwed up. Many different forces aided in my poor performance. That’s not important, though.

Now, I have all A’s at the community school where I am at right now, and would like to transfer to a State University next fall.

I am completely positive that I can get in, but transfer students’ GPA is calculated by “transcripts from all previously attended institutions.’

Well, if I don’t tell this university that I attended my previous one, will they know? Am I forced to give them my terrible transcripts from that other school? Can I just pretend it never happened?

Thanks!

It is required that you present all transcripts from any other college you attended. I don’t know if they have a “transcript police” that can catch you though. People usually end up turning themselves in by mentioning that they have been to some other college at some point and then the registrar asks for those transcripts. Also iIf you don’t turn them in then you will not get any credit for those classes and you’ll be breaking a MAJOR rule (and be punished), although I’m sure its been done. You also can’t use any testing from the other colleges and you will always be looking over your shoulder to see if you’ll get caught. You can pretend, but the university will not pretend. They have big rules against it.

Most universities take only an institutional GPA (from only their college) however they will list any TE (transfer credit) with your other grade next to it, it just doesn’t add into your GPA. This said, I attended an university that did both an institutional and a combined GPA from all colleges attended. I always listed both if asked. So your other grades will be listed on a transcript, but not added into your GPA (unless you attend a rare school that does both GPA’s).

A Note: I work at a community college and many university students take summer classes there and they don’t care what grade they get as long as it is a C or above. They know they can transfer it back to their univeristy and it will not count in their GPA. Where a low GPA will matter is in scholarships and other honors that ask for combined grades.

Hope this helps you decide. Tread carefully.

Check with the university, if you made a F then its not any credit and the school may not even list it. If they don’t take Ds maybe they won’t count it either. In other words, if its not credit then does the new school count it? Mine didn’t list any of my Ws because it didn’t count as credit even though it was on my community college transcript.

Been there, done that! 🙂

DO NOT leave out any transcripts–if they catch it, you’ll be expelled, in all probability. In any case, don’t worry about it. The reason I say that is normally, the only grades that are really considered are the ones from the most recently attended institution And you’re in good shape there.

I’m not sure where you heard that a transfer GPA is “calculated” by combining prior transcript grades–but I’ve never heard of a university doing that. So–be honest. If this particular school has such a wierd policy–they are a rare exception.

when you have been in college for an entire 12 months, college do not require to work out your extreme college transcripts anymore. so which you do not could desire to subject approximately that. pass forward and observe on your application. you have a solid GPA so basically choose for it. once you observe for a dorm, they are going to generally deliver a questionnaire approximately your self after which tournament you with somebody who heavily fits you.
