Im in high school.. I want to go to college… Am i on the right path? … What do i need? .. HELP!?

My name is Barry and I am in high school right now in my Junior Year (11th grade). I have been told that this is the most important year, so i am a little bit concerned! So if you guys can help me out a little, i will greatly appreciate it!

1 – I know i will be taking SAT’s this year but what if i do bad? How hard is it? I have been told i can take it more than once, but do BOTH grades show on your transcript?

2 – I have been told to join clubs, because it looks good on the transcript and colleges like that – so i joined 4 clubs this year! is that enough?

3 – My grades are pretty good, i mean i have about a 91 average which is a A i think.

4 – i want to become a plastic surgeon, so what do i need to do to achieve that? I mean, how many years in college and all.

5 – I am taking college accounting and getting 6 college credits and college marketing next year and getting 6 credits from that too, but will they count if i want to do something in the Med field?

thanx – please help!

1. Your best SAT score from each section shows up on your transcript. If you took the SAT twice, and you got a 700 and 660 on math and 600 and 670 on verbal, then the scores on your transcript would be 700 and 670. If you took the PSAT and did well, then you shouldn’t worry too much about the SAT.

2 & 3. Depends on the caliber of the school that you want to go for. If you’re thinking Ivy League, then who knows? But that would look very good on your transcripts. Four clubs is enough – make sure you don’t burn yourself out though.

4. I believe to become a plastic surgeon, you have to have the same training as any other sort of doctor, so that’s four years undergrad plus 4 years of med school, and then I think you go into your internship and residency?? I know about the schooling, but I’m not sure what comes after that.

5. I think the only way they would count towards anything is if you had to take a core class in one of those topics. And that depends on the school

Don’t fuss about SATs. They take your highest score – but if you have a 91% average you should do well. Joining clubs is important but the kind of club you join is even more important. If you’re looking at med school, sign up for the first aid club, that turns out at major events. In other words, slant your clubs towards your goal because you are gaining experience at hte same time.

The timeline for plastic surgery depends on where you go, when and where you do your internship and all that. Figure six years at least.

Your accounting and marketing courses won’t count for anything in the medical field (although, on a practical basis, they will if you are opening your own office after you graduate) but it’s great that you are piling up a few extra credits.

Sounds like you are on the right track, you are focussed, and you will likely achieve your goal. Good luck to you.

1. yeah its hard. especially the science so study. only your best score will be shown.

2. yeah thats good. not many colleges look at that except ivy league and schools that have a lot of applicates and not many open spots.

3. good!

4. between 10-14 I would say and for that you need Excellant Grades 4.0

5. it will probably help towards your mathe but youl need to check with your college adviser wich youll get when you get acceptd. also fora med student you will have to take A Lot more math. just so you know.

It sounds to me like you are doing more than enough to prepare yourself for college. So, don’t worry. You need to talk to pre-med students to get the best idea of what you will go through. I can tell you that my best friend was pre-med, and she did fine without all your achievements. However, having that in your favor is good for your college application as well as your experience in being disciplined. I’m sure you have heard, college can be difficult if you don’t stick to studying on a regular schedule and give a lot of effort. (you can still have fun…just in moderation) Good luck, I don’t think you will have any problems.
