i suggest doing some research or taking a course in chinese language and culture before you decide to study there. it seems kind of rediculous to go to a foreign country without taking the effort to learn about it.

Check out these sites. Hong Kong has been part of China for the last 10 years. No matter where you are in Hong Kong, you can get to mainland China by train in a short time.

I lived there for a year and often went into China to explore. However, you need to be careful. Don’t travel alone there. Once you leave major cities, you will not find people who speak English well. In contrast, in Hong Kong, most people speak English as it’s part of their schooling from grade 1.

Also, be aware that Cantonese is spoken in Hong Kong but in mainland China, most people speak Mandarin, the official Chinese language. They are not the same.

I would recommend that you check out Hong Kong. It’s a very exciting place with the only drawback being the cost of living.
