If the government offered to pay for your medical school tuition, fees, etc., would you be willing to spend 3 years practicing in a rural part of the country? This could be considered a form of socialized medicine, how do you feel about government intervention such as this?

Sure, I’d snap up that opportunity in a heart beat. There’s a similar program in the US, but it’s a competitive process versus being ‘offered’. It’s called the National Health Service Corps (http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/). This program provides a scholarship in return for service or it offers loan repayment in exchange for service.

The government offered to repay up to $65,000 of my college loans for 3 years of military service and then I found out $42,000 my didn’t qualify for repayment and then I got extended 15 months beyond 3 years and sent to Iraq…

There’s always fine print. There’s always a catch. Make sure you find out what it is first!

Otherwise, sure. Send me out into the countryside to do what I would be doing anyway (doctoring to the sick). Seems like everyone gets something out of it, yes?

Fine print… fine print.

Absolutely! The payback is nothing compared to the cost of medical school.
