I can tell you are really interested in making new friends, however, I know from experience that maybe the internet (even if it is facebook is not the place to start). How about starting from you class, even start a conversation about the class and branch from their about the university, places to eat, hang out, etc. Seeing how it is already established that you have a class in common, it is not that awkward to maybe branch and talk about other stuff as well. Really you just gotta make an effort to talk to someone and see what happens next. What about extra curricular activities. I know most of my closest friends I currently have are from my activities. It is like another safe space to reach out and start talking to people.

As for the facebook question “how do i know you?” – If they are the ones that are adding you, maybe you can turn the question back at them – “I was wondering the same thing, I mean you did add me on facebook as friend?” – They will be intrigued that you answered a question with a question, or the will not respond, hey it doesnt hurt!

Best bet is to branch out in class, work, activities, etc.

Ask ’em where they live. IF they live in ur town, then ask ’em if they wanna hang out.

just making friends isn’t as simple as that you have to find people you are compatible with or you’ll just be acquaintances.
