I’m Thinking About Majoring in Engineering While I’m Not Pretty Brilliant at Science?

I’m confused. Tomorrow’s my first day in my final year of high school. I’m not that genius in Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Unfortunately I’m now aware of the importance of education on my last year and I’m planning to study hard but the problem is that I constantly think that a person who scores Cs and Bs in scientific subjects at school can’t do a good job if he majors in Industrial Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

take some extra credit courses or evening courses to brush up and bring your science, math etc grades up.

How are your SAT scores in this area of study? Math and etc?

Engineering is all about science, technology and math. If you aren’t good at those subjects – if it’s not that you’ve been lazy, but that those subjects aren’t your strong ones – then you really should consider a major other than engineering.

In fact, if your grades in science and math aren’t that great, and your SAT scores in those areas are also not strong, then many engineering programs won’t admit you.

If, however, it’s not that those subjects are too hard, but that you haven’t applied yourself to them, then do so now. It’s not too late. If you do really well in these subjects in your last year, and do well on those portions of the SAT, then you may gain admission to some of the less competitive engineering programs even with a so-so past history in these classes. You won’t get into MIT, but you could get into your local state university. Make sure that you use the application essays to explain your “wake-up” call. Since even the less competive engineeering programs, so long as they are ABET accredited, graduate good engineers who do get jobs, then you’d be in good shape.

Avoid Devry and schools like that. Focus on schools with decent reputations, and that are ABET accredited (check the ABET website for a complete list), do well at university, do some co-ops or internships while you’re there, and you will be much more likely to get a job in the field upon graduation.

I don’t think it’s really a matter of how well you perform in those subjects, but instead .. your determination to succeed. Give it your best! If it’s something you really want to do, then I’m sure that you’ll do just fine =]

I’m not a science person either.. especially with chemistry ! But I really want to be a pharmacist!.. So i’m willing to do my best. =]

I hope you make up your mind about what you’re going to be majoring it. It could be very stressful! But just do whatever you like doing! There’s always google =] Do some research on careers.. There’s so many different careers out there =]

GO FOR IT!!

There’s nothing you cant achieve with lots of hard work. If you really wana do it, nothing can stop you. Engineers make dreams come true. All it takes is a different approach towards life and im sure with the right people around you and good teachers, you can become a very good engineer. Please never forget that how much you SCORE doesn’t matter that much, what matters is that you know the basics and the concepts. If they are clear, its all downhill after that.

Good Luck!

Engineering is a very difficult field. I would reconsider your choice of major because you want to do something that you are good at in college. It’s crucial in your academic performance and in your following successes. I am sure you are good at other subjects… perhaps in the liberal arts? You could consider a career in law, perhaps? Major in something like political science? I am only speculating though.

If you are not doing well in science classes in high school, I would reconsider a college major in engineering. College classes are much more difficult and you would probably fail the science courses.
