Computer Science or Design/Media Arts????

If I want to get into the interactive entertainment industry (video games, websites, special effects, etc.) would it be more helpful to be a major in computer science or design/media art? I love art, and I’m pretty interested in how computers work. Is there anyway I could do both at the same time?

Take up Design/Media Arts as your major in college and take computer science online in University of Phoenix. There you have it, you can take both but it will be so hard which you might flunk each of them.

Computer Sciences would put you on the back end (the engine) while MEdia Arts would put your on the front end (interface).

The thing today with Media Arts you can use a somewhat simple programming product like Macromedia which isn’t as intenstive as C++

The downside is overhead. It’s slow process because it rides on top of a C++ Engine and the OS.

If you design something in NATIVE CODE it will run 100 faster.

The other downside, to be frank, is with six months experimentation and a book of instructions a secretary can write a Macromedia front end.

It would take a secretary closer to 2 years to make a pretty feeble C++ front end.

If you want to see an example go to any drug store and look at the Kodak Picture Maker, it’s designed with Macromedia.
