I m graduating high school this year, and was considering DEVRY online class is it good school or bad one?

Hi, im graduating high school this year, and was wondering about online class and i liked the flexibility. So i heard Devry was good online college for CIS field (the one im going for). Is it good or bad college? Because of some of the reviews i read it had some bumpy past, and also didnt know it was for-profit organization. also i already met the advisers they seemed like nice people and gave me all the infos on everything. If u think its a bad one can u give me the website of good one?? Also about the accredition?

the problem with schools like Devry and FMU is that the credits hardly ever transfer to major colleges…

best bet is going to a local Community College, they are legit, credits always transfer, classes are smaller, classes are very flexible, and much much cheaper than a major university, and many classes you can take online as well. once you finish your credits at a CC you transfer at a University [they enter you into the junior/3rd year in the university…]

so wherever you live I am positive you can find a local community college…

DeVry has had its challenges in the past with its accreditation. It also has had several graduates complain about the financial aid program – which is basically a loan program with exhorbitant interest rates for payback.

Their claim to fame is their ability to place graduates in jobs upon completion. I am not sure if that is still true today, but some 10-15 years ago, they held the record for placements.

I would investigate the program and ask for a list of current graduates to interview. Any reputable school will have an alumni base willing to talk to you.

I agree with the above poster about being a glorified (and extremely expensive) vocational school. Shop around for at least 3 schools when considering your options and compare the costs. Don’t limit yourself to just on-line schools. All these schools are for-profit and will have very fancy websites, glossy handouts, and a lot of friendly (and beautiful) people to help you. They are hired specifically to attract your money.

Many 2 and 4 year schools offer tons of on line classes now and can be earned with no or very little student loans. Check a local community college or 4 year school.

Good Luck.

Devry and other institutes are just glorified vocational schools. You are better off going to a JC, then transferring into a state university. Its much better education.

I would avoid private for-profit institutions. Employers tend to trash the applications of those who listed such on their resumes. These schools are only interested in your money and this will be reflected your entire time you are there. Hence, employers know you’ve just “bought” your degree.

Rudeness aside, I think you should quit. For-profit universities aren’t held in very high esteem in industry
