I am studying to be a microbiologist. What should I do after I get my degree?

Military? (if so, what branch is best for my field?)

Masters? (where would be a good school?)

Basically, I want to hit a grand slam the first time with the right path. Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance!

You have a few options….

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the military, there’s nothing related to microbiology you could do.

Pursueing a graduate degree would be the best… Master’s or even a Ph.D.

With that, you can become a researcher, and use your skills in microbiology for researching a specific microbe, or discovery new microbes.

As an undergrad, I would strongly recommend that you pursue some type of undergrad research, either through an internship or by working under one of your professor’s under their own labratory research. That way you can have experince working in a lab setting.

Also, you can start working as a Lab Technician as soon as you get a Bachelor’s Degree… You just have to look.

I wish you the best of luck.

Defense: Micro-biological Warfare related research. One may need additional qualification. Routine clinical micribiology at defense hospitals.

Masters: One can get into hospitals, specialty clical analytical labs, pharma companies for q/c q/a.

Do a masters, PhD and do pretty much what you want including teaching, extra-terrestrial micro-biology. This last may become important, but very restricted.
