It’s a joke. Fact is you won’t get into a top university without the honors classes, and you need to get A and Bs in them.

You won’t be taken seriously if you claim to have a HS GPA of 4.5. Just say you have a 3.75 but took a number of honors and AP classes.

At my high school we had a weighted GPA and an unweighted GPA. Honors and AP, of course, don’t change the unweighted GPA. For our weighted GPA we got different point values for the grades in an honors or AP class.

Regular classes:

A = 4

B = 3

C = 2

D = 1

F = 0

Honors and AP:

A = 5

B = 3.75

C = 2.5

D = 1.25

… I think F was still a 0 but am not sure. Then you take those points and figure out your new average.

It depends on the school. You can ask a guidance counselor or a secretary in the guidance office.

well, when I did honors english in ninth grade, it did not increase my GPA. It is just a higher course so it looks better on your transcript for college. Colleges want to know that you work hard. Especially the UC schools.

Each high school has its own policy. Some colleges will use a formula to convert grades in different level classes, while others will do it by feel. Ask your guidance counselor what applies to your high school.
